If you decided to go on keto, you’re probably aware that you need to cut out sugar and carbs. Reducing them is essential to reaching a metabolic state called ketosis, which causes your body to break down fat (instead of sugar) for fuel.

The ketogenic diet consists of 75% fat, 20% protein, and 5% carbs and sugars. Consuming sugary and high-carb food can take you out of ketosis. Luckily, there are different low-carb sweeteners you can enjoy.

An ideal sweetener should be:
• Low glycemic
• Low carbohydrates
• Sugar-free

If you’re a beginner on keto, you may feel difficult to give up sweets right away. With this, you might be curious if there’s some sweet stuff you can include in your diet meal plan. We’ll talk about one in particular: Stevia, a natural sweetener.

Stevia is a valuable tool in your keto toolbox, as it has no glycemic index, no carbs, and no sugar — therefore, it won’t interrupt ketosis.

Note: the lower the glycemic index, the better for keto dieters.

So, is Stevia keto-friendly?

Yes, it is.

But remember that you shouldn’t make a habit of using low-carb sweeteners in your diet. Instead, use them as a tool to help you reduce sugar until your cravings are gone.
